Welcome to Schools of Kung Fu Edinburgh, a proud member of Schools of Kung Fu UK, an organisation with a rich history and strong international connections. Since its inception in 2005, Schools of Kung Fu has grown to encompass locations across the UK, delivering high-quality martial arts training to students of all ages. Our lineage and teachings are firmly rooted in traditional Chinese martial arts, combined with a modern approach to personal development, fitness, and self-defence.
Our schools are part of the International Wing Tjun Kung Fu Association (IWKA), now globally recognised as Schools of Kung Fu by the IWKA. The IWKA, under the leadership of SiFu Sergio Iadarola, who holds the rank of Grandmaster, has evolved to reflect a broader focus on traditional Chinese martial arts while maintaining its core in Internal Wing Chun. This global network allows us to train regularly at the prestigious Eternal Spring Institute in Madeira, where our instructors deepen their knowledge under SiFu Sergio’s guidance.
Through this collaboration, we draw on insights from a variety of Chinese martial arts traditions, including Fujian White Crane, Emei Mountain styles, Tai Chi, Bagua Zhang, Qigong, and Internal Wing Chun. These influences shape a holistic training system that emphasises both external techniques and internal energy cultivation.
The Schools of Kung Fu organisation is built on a foundation of leadership and collaboration. SiFu Alan Paterson, the UK Chief Instructor, and SiFu Kul Rai, the National Instructor for England, have shared a longstanding training relationship spanning over 20 years. Both had previously trained in various martial arts before they each discovered Wing Chun and became involved with the EWTO. SiFu Alan left in 2006, and SiFu Kul followed in 2016. Their paths reconnected under SiFu Sergio Iadarola’s IWKA, bringing together their shared passion for Wing Chun Kung Fu and their commitment to teaching martial arts of the highest quality.
In 2021, the IWKA officially became known as Schools of Kung Fu by the IWKA, marking a significant evolution for the organisation. This rebranding reflected the increasing integration of additional Chinese martial arts into the curriculum, expanding the organisation’s offerings and broadening its global appeal. The Eternal Spring Institute in Madeira serves as the hub for introducing these arts to the wider martial arts community, with students and instructors from across the world coming together to learn and grow in the heart of this vibrant tradition.
At Schools of Kung Fu Edinburgh, we believe martial arts is more than just physical training; it’s a journey of self-discovery and personal growth. Our classes cater to all experience levels, offering children and adults the opportunity to improve their physical fitness, mental focus, and confidence while learning effective self-defence skills.
